1984年に兄であるザシャリー・ヒエタラと共にバンド結成、Purgatory を名乗り1985年にレコード契約を獲得する。 1984 formed the band with Zashari Hietala was a brother, Purgatory volunteered to 1985 years to get a record deal. その際にバンド名変更を要求されたためバンド名をタロットとし、フィンランドで初めてのヘヴィメタル バンドとしてアルバムThe Spell of Ironでデビューする。 Tarot and the band name change was requested for the band when their album as a heavy metal band's first to debut in The Spell of Iron Finland.
アルバムFor the Glory of Nothing発表の後タロットが活動休止となったため、 シナジーや Conquest に参加。 For the Glory of Nothing album to become a tarot hiatus after the announcement, and synergy join the Conquest. さらにカバー・バンド Metal Gods で活動を行う。 Cover band Metal Gods do the work in addition.
