長年の地域密着活動が実を結び、8月には川崎フロンターレ後援会の会員数が初の2万人を突破。 Community-based activities to bear fruit for many years, first in August Kawasaki Frontale supporters of the membership of two million mark.また、この頃から等々力陸上競技場の老朽化および混雑による危険性が声高に叫ばれるようになり、行政に対し競技場の全面改修を求める請願書の提出の一環として、シーズン終盤に10万筆目標の署名活動が展開された（最終的に15万4020筆を集め、2月18日に川崎市へ提出された）。

シーズン中は数々の人事面での問題（特に先述のフッキがらみ）が噴出するも、適切な補強とチーム一丸となった戦いの結果、鹿島、名古屋と首位争いを繰り広げ、シーズン最終戦までリーグ優勝の可能性を残すまでの戦いを見せた。最後まで鹿島を抜くことは出来ず2006年以来の準優勝でシーズンを終えたが、2009年度のAFCチャンピオンズリーグへ2年振り2回目の出場権を獲得した。

AFCチャンピオンズリーグへ出場する2009年シーズンは、体調が回復した関塚が再び監督に就任、昨年途中から指揮を執った高畠は再びヘッドコーチに就任した。

また、長年に渡って主力として活躍した我那覇と箕輪がそれぞれヴィッセル神戸 、札幌に完全移籍したほか、前年に戦力外となった原田拓がロアッソ熊本へ、 大橋正博がKリーグ 江原FCへ、レンタル移籍だった都倉賢 （ ザスパ草津 ）、 西山貴永 （ ベガルタ仙台 ）が完全移籍するなど7選手が退団。また、 FC東京にレンタル移籍していた佐原秀樹のレンタル期間が1年延長された。

主な補強はセレッソ大阪へ期限付移籍していた相澤貴志の復帰、新戦力として、 特別指定選手として2004年・2005年に所属していた清水の矢島卓郎を完全移籍で獲得（事実上の古巣復帰）、レンタル移籍だったヴィトール・ジュニオールを完全移籍で獲得、ジュニーニョも契約期間延長するなど攻撃陣を中心に選手を獲得した（なお、前年に東京Vのレンタル移籍から復帰した吉原慎也がジュビロ磐田へ再度レンタル移籍）。

2009年のヤマザキナビスコカップは決勝まで進んだが、2000年、2007年に続き今回も準優勝に終わった。

この決勝戦後の表彰式において、協会幹部（協会名誉総裁の高円宮妃久子も列席）やスポンサー関係者の前にもかかわらず、川崎フロンターレの一部選手が不適切な行動（首にかけて頂いた準優勝メダルを外す行為、握手を拒む行為、壁に寄り掛かる、しゃがみ込む行為、ガムを噛みながらの表彰式参加[1] ）をとったことが問題となり、 川淵三郎協会名誉会長や鬼武健二チェアマンから大きく批判された^[7] 。これを受けて川崎は謝罪を行ない^[8] 、準優勝賞金5000万円の自主返還を申し出て、武田信平社長ら役員3人の減俸、 森勇介の最低1試合の出場停止などの処分が発表された^[9] 。詳細は2009年ナビスコカップ表彰式での悪態騒動を参照されたい。

リーグ戦では鹿島の不調もあいまってリーグ終盤に首位に立つが第32節に大分トリニータに痛恨の敗戦をし鹿島に首位を明け渡し2位に転落。優勝は最終節までもつれ込み、川崎が勝ち、なおかつ鹿島が引き分け以下でなければ川崎の優勝はない、という状況だったが、12月5日の最終節でアウェーで柏レイソルに3-2で勝利したが、鹿島アントラーズが浦和に勝ったため鹿島の優勝が決まり、川崎は2年連続で優勝を逃した。

富士通川崎サッカー部は1996年にプロ化を推進するにあたり、Jリーグの理念に沿った地域社会との共生を目指すことを大テーマに掲げた。選手には「プロだから」という特別な意識・扱いをせず、地元川崎市の各行政区でのサッカースクール（学校巡回スクール含む）の実施といったサッカーに関わることだけでなく、地域の市民・区民まつりへの参加、市内各商店街等の行事への選手らの派遣（お年始など）、また地元商店街加盟店舗などの協賛によるマン・オブ・ザ・マッチの表彰制度「あんたが大賞」 、週末のホームゲームでのサイン会等を積極的に行うように務めた。特に、 クリスマスシーズンに行われる入院児への訪問活動「青いサンタクロース 」は毎年恒例の奉仕活動として定着しており、社会的な評価も高い。なお、フロンターレでは地域密着活動への参加については選手との契約条件に盛り込まれていると言われている。

一方、ホームタウンである川崎市も、「プロスポーツの根付かない街」の汚名を返上し、市民意識の一体化を進める目的で、このようなクラブの働きかけに呼応すべく2004年 9月に「 川崎市ホームタウンスポーツ推進パートナー 」を制定。フロンターレはこの創設メンバーとして認定を受け、これに基づく活動を推進していくことになった。また、その中で、川崎市は他の地元企業・団体、またサポーター持株会と共に、運営会社（当時の富士通川崎スポーツマネジメント）の株式の一部を取得した。

2006年はクラブ創立10周年に当たり、記念行事を通じてより一層の地域密着を図ろうとしている。その一つとして、川崎市商店街連合会を通じ、市内の全商店街の街灯にチームの応援タペストリー （ふろん太のデザイン）を配布し、川崎市民全体へのアピールと地元からの支援体制強化を図っている。 2006年1月の時点では、タペストリー掲示を了解したのが加盟全139団体（商店街以外を含む）中68団体と紹介されている。

また広報担当者のインタビュー記事には、後援会員の75%が等々力競技場と富士通本店・川崎工場のある中原区、クラブ事務所のある高津区 、そして市が整備しフロンターレが指定管理者となって2006年4月に開業した「 フロンタウン・さぎぬま 」（ フットサル場）のある宮前区の3区在住者で占められるとあり、クラブ方針としても特にこの3区での営業活動を先行して重視するとしている。
川崎競馬場で2006年 11月2日にJBCマイル競走の前座として「祝10周年・フロンターレ特別」が行われた^[10] 。

• 柏レイソルには、ホームで相性が良い反面、アウェー柏市内では相性が悪い。
  • 日立柏サッカー場では、注目度の高い試合が続いている。 2000年ナビスコ杯1回戦第2戦アウェーは引き分け(1-1)、(ホーム第1戦での1-0での勝利でベスト8進出)、2000年2ndステージ第13節は敗北(0-1)でJ2降格が決定、2005年第1節はJ1復帰初戦でロスタイムに追いつく引き分け(1-1)、2007年第26節はAFCチャンピオンズリーグ準々決勝の狭間で出場選手を大幅に入れ替えて大敗(0-4)、2009年は結果次第では初タイトルの可能性もある最終節で大雨の中、辛勝(3-2)し5戦目にして当地で初勝利を飾った。
  • 柏の葉公園総合競技場では、2008年ナビスコ杯第4節で対戦し、1-3で敗れている。
  • 2008年第27節の柏主催の国立競技場での試合は5-2で勝利している。
• コンサドーレ札幌には1997年にはホーム、アウェイともにVゴール負けを喫している。特にアウェイの札幌厚別公園競技場では、ロスタイム突入時に2点差でリードしていながらの敗戦であり、その後の「ロスタイムが苦手」という意識が生まれる原因のひとつとなった。しかし、1998年以降、負けがなかったが、2008年ナビスコ杯第2節( 室蘭市入江運動公園陸上競技場 )で、1-2で逆転負けを喫し、久々の敗戦となった。
• ヴィッセル神戸には2007年までカップ戦などを含め負けがなく、2000年には降格争いをしているクラブ同士の対戦で唯一90分で2連勝を挙げたが(同年の他の連勝カードはセレッソ大阪戦(1試合は延長)のみ)、2008年J1第2節では1-4で破れて連勝はストップした。 2009年も第2節で1-2で逆転負けを喫した。なお、JFL時代の1996年にはヴィッセル神戸のホームゲーム全15試合中、唯一の土をつけている。 2007年シーズンから神戸のホーム開幕戦が3年続けてこのカードが組まれていて、最近では今シーズンの川崎フロンターレの行方を占うカードになりつつあるが、勝利を収める事が出来ず、開幕ダッシュに失敗し続けている。
• 東京ヴェルディにも、川崎ダービーとして対戦した2000年の初対戦で敗れたが、それ以降は負けがない。天皇杯では2001年準々決勝で快勝(3-0)し、戦力外通告選手の活躍が話題となった。また、これが味の素スタジアムでの初勝利である。ヴェルディは2005年シーズンにJ1復帰後の初勝利を飾った相手となった。 2008年シーズンは最終節アウェーで勝利し、ヴェルディをJ2に再降格させた。
• 横浜FCには初対戦の2001年J2第11節でエメルソンの4ゴールで圧勝(6-0)してからわずか1敗と相性が良い。 J1での初対戦となった2007年J1第3節も同じく6-0で川崎の大勝となった。
• セレッソ大阪も勝ち越しチームの1つである。 2000年には1stステージ優勝の夢を打ち破り（ 長居の悲劇参照）、2006年には最終節( 大阪市長居第2陸上競技場 )で3-1と勝利し、J2に降格させた。なおこの勝利でクラブ史上最高のJ1リーグ2位が確定し、翌年のAFCチャンピオンズリーグ出場権を獲得した。
• 横浜Fマリノスについては、2000年での初対戦で敗れた後は無敗だったが、2007年にはJ1リーグ戦で連敗した。ナビスコ杯では川崎がJ2にいた2001年にナビスコ杯で対戦し、2連敗していた。その後J1再昇格したJ1同士の対戦となった2005年シーズンは川崎の2連勝でお返しをし、2008年終了時までの対戦成績は4勝2敗3引分け。 （2007年ナビスコカップ準決勝は川崎が2-0・4-2で2連勝）
• サンフレッチェ広島に関しても、2000年の2ndステージ以降、2005年前半戦を除いて負けが無い。特に、J2時代の2003年は2勝2分けと完全に圧倒していた。それと、2007年はホームゲームで3-0で勝ったことで広島をJ1・J2入れ替え戦濃厚に追いやった。ただし、同チーム所属のFW 佐藤寿人には、彼のかつて所属したジェフユナイテッド市原（現市原・千葉）やベガルタ仙台時代から『川崎キラー』として恐れられ、多くのゴールを許している。
• アビスパ福岡にはJ1・J2入れ替え戦で敗れ、Jリーグでも2000年のJ1昇格初戦を含めて3連敗したが、2002年にJ2での2試合目で初勝利を挙げてからの対戦成績は川崎が完全に圧倒している。
• 名古屋グランパスにも2000年、2005年は互角だったが、2006年以降は無敗で2009年もAFCチャンピオンズリーグも含め負けがない。
• 反対に清水エスパルスには初対戦から6戦して1度も勝てなかった。 2006年はこの清水エスパルスに負けたことで優勝争いから脱落した。 2007年にホームで初勝利。しかしアウェーゲームではまだ勝利を得られず、大変苦手としている。
• 同じ静岡のジュビロ磐田もホームで全敗と苦手にしている。 2000年には藤田俊哉にPKのみでのハットトリック達成を許す珍記録も産み、 前田遼一のプロ初出場まで試される惨敗(1-5)を喫して、試合後にゼッカ監督の辞任が発表された。ただし、アウェイ戦ではこれまで4勝1敗と勝ち越していて、2005年のJ1復帰以降はアウェイ戦では4連勝中である。
• ガンバ大阪もリーグ戦では苦手チームであるが、2006年以降はホームの等々力で勝利している。特に2008年はこのホームで4-0大勝し、ここ数年ホームでは苦手意識を払拭している。 2005年度は最終節ホームで負けたことで、このガンバ大阪にJリーグ優勝という初タイトルを与えてしまった。カップ戦などでは2002年シーズンの天皇杯、1998年（旧JFLから参加）や1999年(J2)のナビスコ杯で勝っていた。
• また、対アルビレックス新潟では、J1昇格後はホームゲーム3戦3勝でアウェーゲーム( 新潟スタジアム )は3戦3敗。 J2時代はホーム・アウェー共に2勝6敗の計16戦4勝12敗と苦手にしている。
• 浦和レッドダイヤモンズとの対戦は因縁めいた結末になることが多い。
  • 初顔合わせとなった2000年のJリーグカップ （ナビスコ杯）では、ホームでの1戦目を3-0で圧勝した。アウェイでの2戦目は2点を先行される苦しい展開となったが、 ギド・ビルギリオ・アルバレンガのPKで1点を挙げ試合を終了した。この結果2戦合計で1勝1敗となったが総得点を4-2とし、辛くも2回戦に進出した。なお、同シーズンの天皇杯でも対戦した。その時は既に来シーズンの1・2部入れ換えが決まっており、試合も1-2で敗れた。
  • J1復帰後の初対戦となった2005年の第2節は、前評判を覆し後半途中まで3-1と優位に試合を展開するも、終盤に追いつかれ引き分けた。第29節での対戦ではFW 都倉賢が相手GKの都築龍太と小競り合いとなり一発退場（都築は警告）になるなど荒れた展開になり2-3で敗戦、 関塚隆監督が「我々を勝たせない何かが働いた」とだけ発言し試合後の記者会見を切り上げる異例の事態となった。
  • 2006年のJリーグカップ （ナビスコ杯）は決勝トーナメントの1回戦で対戦、アウェイでの1戦目に3-4で敗れたものの、ホームでの2戦目で2-1と勝利を収めた。この結果1勝1敗、総得点5-5となったが、この年から決勝トーナメントで採用されたアウェーゴールルールが初めて適用され、準決勝に進出した。
  • 2007年第7節の対戦はアウェイであったが2-1で勝利した。この勝利は、浦和のホーム連続無敗記録を25でストップさせるものだった。
  • 2008年シーズンはお互いがアウェイ（12節ホーム川崎で浦和が勝利 0-1）（18節ホーム浦和で川崎が勝利 1-3）勝利。
• FC東京とは長年のライバル関係が続いている。
  • お互いの前身である富士通と東京ガス時代から激しい順位争いを続け、1997年と1998年は川崎フロンターレに東京ガスが立ち向かった（「歴史」の項目を参照）。旧JFLの通算対戦成績は川崎（富士通）の6勝1分7敗、1997年以降は2勝2敗となる。
  • 1999年は川崎の2勝2分で終わったが、J1に同時昇格した2000年には川崎が2敗し、年間成績も明暗を分けた。川崎のJ1復帰後もFC東京の優位が続いたが、2007年第10節では川崎がこのカードで8年ぶりに勝利した(5-2)。同年第30節も川崎が7-0で圧勝した。
  • 互いのホームタウンが多摩川を挟んで隣接し、旧JFL時代からの関係も深いことから、2006年第30節では両クラブが協力して、ホームのFC東京が川崎市内にポスターを貼る集客キャンペーンを実施した（4-5で川崎が敗北）。これを発展させ、2007年からは「 多摩川クラシコ 」と命名され、伝統の一戦として盛り上げることになった。 （参照： 日本のダービーマッチ ）なお、ここでは1999年のJ2時代から対戦回数をカウントしている。
• 鹿島アントラーズには初昇格の2000年のシーズンはナビスコ杯の決勝を含め全く勝てなかった。前述の2004年度天皇杯で対鹿島戦初勝利になるところだった。しかし再昇格した2005年以降は互角の成績で苦手意識を払拭し、対戦成績をひっくり返す勢いである。
• 大分トリニータのホームである九州石油ドームではJ1のリーグ戦では未勝利である。 2006年、2007年と当時の関塚監督が退席処分になり、2008年アウェイは前半から数的有利ながらスコアレスドローに持ち込まれ、2008年ホーム戦では前節にシャムスカ監督が退席処分になり、互いの監督が最後まで居合わせない事が目立つ。 2009年は第32節で降格決定後の大分に惜敗した。
• 2007年以前にJリーグに在籍したチームの中で、川崎がJリーグで対戦した事がないのは横浜フリューゲルス 、 ザスパ草津 、 愛媛FC 、 徳島ヴォルティスの4チームである。ただし、横浜フリューゲルスとは1998年のナビスコ杯で敗戦(0-1)、徳島ヴォルティスの前身の大塚FCヴォルティス徳島とは1997年と1998年の旧JFLで4戦4勝、愛媛FCとは天皇杯（ 第84回・第87回 ）で2戦2勝の対戦成績が残っている。ザスパ草津との公式戦対戦はないが、2004年のシーズン開幕前に、ファンクラブ会員を等々力へ無料招待してプレシーズンマッチに準じた練習試合を行い、川崎が勝利している(6-1)。

• 2005年 〜 ガンプラ （ガンダムプラモ）とコラボ。

• 2008年 、漫画『 GIANT KILLING 』（作： 綱本将也・ツジトモ 、 週刊モーニング連載）とコラボ。
  • 9月20日開催の多摩川クラシコ （対FC東京 ）のポスターイラスト、およびトレーディングカードにツジトモ書き下ろしで同作の登場人物『達海猛』のイラストが使われた（これにまつわるエピソードはツジトモの項を参照されたい）。

• 2009年 、TVアニメ『 天体戦士サンレッド （作： くぼたまこと 、 ヤングガンガン連載）』とコラボ。
  • 中村、井川、谷口の3選手、武田社長、マスコットキャラクター・ふろん太とその家族との共演アニメ（全4話）が制作され、『 ファイト!川崎フロンターレ 』内で放送された[2] 。 『サンレッド』のDVD2〜5巻に映像特典として収録されている。また、そのコラボレーション企画の一環として、タレントの髭男爵の2人（山田ルイ53世、ひぐち君）が開幕戦の始球式に登場した（両者とも、同作のアニメに声優として出演）。

• 2007年のホームゲーム開催時（等々力スタジアム）に様々なパロディーやコラボレーションを実施。
  • エースをねらえ! ／ 4月15日の清水エスパルス戦。 Jリーグ加盟以来勝利を挙げていなかったエスパルスを相手に「エース」ならぬ「エス（パルス）をねらえ!」と題して初勝利を目指そうという企画を行った。この時はアニメの「エースをねらえ!」で岡ひろみ役を演じた高坂真琴が「このゲームは絶対に負けられない!!　打倒オレンジ、ついに完結よ!!」といったフレーズの宣伝を行った。
  • 川崎麻世 （タレント）／ 6月30日のヴィッセル神戸戦で、川崎市のスポンサードマッチ（ 7月1日の市制施行記念日に合わせた記念試合）を実施。その試合で川崎麻世が「 YOUNG MAN (YMCA) 」をハーフタイムショーとして熱唱。 2006年までは西城秀樹が、川崎市内在住の縁でほぼ毎年招聘されていた。
  • 朝日放送テレビ・パネルクイズアタック25 ／ 8月25日のガンバ大阪戦の試合において、同番組とのコラボレーション「アタック25日」を開催。 博多華丸が児玉清の物まねで「フロンターレ!!　大事なアタックチャーンス!!」とPRした他、同番組の特徴である回答者のカラーの入れ替わり（ガンバの青からフロンターレの水色）のパフォーマンスをバックスタンドのフロンターレ応戦席で行った。
  • あいのり ／ 5月11日のAFCチャンピオンズリーグ・アレマ・マラン（インドネシア）戦で、同大会初出場・初の決勝ラウンド進出決定の時にサポーターがそれをパロディー化した「はつのり」のTシャツを着用し祝福。
  • プロジェクトX〜挑戦者たち〜 ／ 9月に行われるアウェーでの鹿島アントラーズ （ 9月1日 ）、 柏レイソル （ 9月22日 ）の試合を、ホームタウンの頭文字が全て「K」（川崎=Kawasaki、鹿島=Kashima、柏=Kashiwa）で始まるということ、更に「決戦の9月」という意味合いも込めて、大応援団を川崎から繰り出そうという**「プロジェクトK（打倒!!　鹿島&柏）」なる試みを行った。なお、2006年のホーム鹿島戦ではスキージャンプ競技の極限点になぞらえた「 K点越え」キャンペーンを実行した。

また、こういったコラボレーションで、スポンサーの一つであるとんかつ和幸協賛の下、パロディー弁当が発売された。

• 清水エスパルス戦／「カツのよ!!フロンターレ弁当」（オレンジデザート入りのとんかつ弁当）
• ヴィッセル神戸戦／「マヨわずカツ弁当」（とんかつにタルタルマヨネーズソースが添付されている）
• ガンバ大阪戦／「アカッツ!!　チャンス!!弁当」（当日発売されたカツ弁当の半数に幸運をもたらすといわれる「ラッキーメンチカツ」が挿入されている）

※このパロディー弁当が発売されると必ずチームは勝利を挙げている（2008年8月25日現在）。

[ 編集 ] 選手・サポーターによるイベント

近年、等々力競技場での試合で勝利した場合、試合後に選手たちがサポーターの前で、イベントを行うことが恒例となっている。これは、2002年から3年間在籍したDF 岡山一成が試合後、「岡山劇場」と呼ばれる試合後のマイク（メガホン）パフォーマンス（これは後に岡山が在籍する柏レイソルやベガルタ仙台でもやっており、サポーターからの評価を得た)をやって以降、試合後のイベントは定着。等々力競技場はピッチとの間にトラックがあるため、そこまで近くないものの、選手とハイタッチが出来るほどにサポーター席が低い事などが影響し、選手とサポーターが一体化しており、現在でもイベントを盛り上げている。

[ 編集 ] アウェイゲーム観戦ツアー

川崎フロンターレはサポーターのアウェイゲーム観戦ツアーに、他チームとは一風変わった企画を行うことが多い。

• 2007年 10月28日のFC東京ホームゲームの多摩川クラシコで、多摩川の「 丸子の渡し 」を約70年ぶりに復活させて船で東京へ乗り込むアウェイツアーを実施^[11] 。
• 2009年 5月24日のFC東京ホームゲームの多摩川クラシコでは、試合前日の23日の夜に横浜から伊豆大島へフェリーで行き、試合当日の24日に大島空港から飛行機で味の素スタジアムの隣にある調布飛行場へ行くという遠回りなアウェイツアー「多摩川クラシコエアーツアー」を実施^[12] 。
• 2009年 7月11日のアルビレックス新潟ホームゲームのアウェイツアーではそれまで新潟に11連敗していたため、「新潟戦11連敗阻止キャンペーン『11回目のプロポーズ』」と題し、全員そろいの川崎のチームカラーパジャマを着て貸切列車で移動するというツアーを実施。帰りの貸切夜行列車では、わざわざ新潟まで来たふろん太らが見送っていた。 ^{[13] [13]}
• 2009年 10月7日の鹿島アントラーズとの16分間の再試合では、千円という格安のバスツアーを実施。平日にもかかわらず応募が殺到し、最終的にバス25台という大規模なものとなった。なお、この際には鹿島サポーターと思われる客は排除するという徹底ぶりだった^[14] 。
